ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has appointed Kisii ex-governor as the chair of the Universal Advisory Council. Hon James Ongwae appointment comes at a time when majority of ODM supporters are gambling with the future of politics in the country.

Ongwae will henceforth lead an eight-member committee in executing its mandate.
James Ongwae Appointment
The government of william Ruto favored Ongwae for his strong inclination to the ruling party.
His appointment declaration reads as follows.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 102K of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy appoints James Ongwae as chairperson of the Universal Service Advisory Council for a period of three years.”

According to the Public Service Commission (PSC), Ongwae and his team are expected to advise the Communications Authority of Kenya on strategic policy guidance and implementation of the Universal Service Fund.

The appointed members will remain in office for the next 3 years effective November 15, 2023.

Ongwae, who served as the Kisii governor for two terms, was a devout member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party before switching allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza regime.
In September 2022, he publicly declared his support for the Kenya Kwanza government.
