At least 300,000 jobless teachers have so far expressed interest in the latest TSC mass recruitment with only 11,000 internship & job slots on offer.
The Ministry of Education introduced the contract based internship program in 2019. Unemployed educators have since been earning at least 30 automatic marks with special considerations in the career market.
Latest TSC mass recruitment dates in 2022
TSC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nancy Macharia, said the National Treasury has already set aside a budget.
She confirmed a total of Ksh. 2.5 billion for hiring 5,000 permanent teachers and an additional Ksh. 1.2 billion for the expected 6,000 interns.
The 6,000 interns include primary school teachers set to earn Ksh. 15,000 and high school teachers set to earn Ksh. 20,000 per month.
TSC says the underway mass recruitment exercise will not only ease the shortage of teachers in schools but also provide opportunities and experience to the newly registered teachers.
Dr Macharia who was speaking at Mitihani House amid the release of the 2021 KCSE results exposed a national shortage of 114,581 teachers.
“I wish to assure that the commission will immediately embark on the exercise to recruit the teachers to ensure that they report to work as soon as possible to ease the existing teacher shortage in school.”

The National Exam function officiated by CS George Magoha ended with Dr Macharia emphasizing the importance of quality education.
