Azimio Demonstration fatalities hit 15

A press statement released by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga indicates that police brutality is a major cause of violence in the intended peaceful demonstrations.

Wednesday’s demos ended with 9 deaths in various parts of the country.

The loss of lives occurred in the persistent exchange of tear gas and stones between the protestors and the police.

In some cases, violence resulted in rooting and damage to government and private resources.

For instance, Kitengela protestors attacked the divisional headquarters, destroying the national flag and torching the Assistant County Commissioner’s office.

At least 10 people are nursing gunshot injuries following the deadly incident.

Pupils at the New Kihumbuini Primary School also suffered teargas canisters thrown into their classrooms.

Several learners fainted in the process and were rushed to nearby hospitals with shortness of breath.
