JOOUST is a public university located in Bondo, Kenya. The history of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University can be traced back to several phases.

The institution is named after Raila’s father and first Vice-President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Where is JOOUST located? Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, Bondo Campus is situated along Bondo-Usenge Road within the vicinity of Bondo town.

Its academic journey is summarized below;

1. Establishment in 2009 as Bondo University College

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University was founded in 2009, through a Legal Order No. 56 of 11th May 2009, as Bondo University College

It was established by the Government of Kenya as the then Constituent College of Maseno University.

2. Becoming a full-fledged university in 2013

The college was granted a Charter on 13th February 2013 thus gaining a new name as Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

The University College started with a small number of 200 students but has since grown its student body to about 15,000.

3. Diversity of courses at JOOUST

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University programmes are tailored towards providing students with the relevant competencies, skills, knowledge and integrated understanding of different fields.

The ultimate goal is to contribute to the realization of a knowledge-based economy as espoused in the Kenya Vision 2030.
