Ruto Raila handshake nightmare lingers in the minds of economically strained Kenyans. Meanwhile, Kenya Kwanza hardliners are far standing from the idea of sharing power with the opposition.

Principals within the government have welcomed talks as long as they do not end up inviting the former Prime Minister to the corridors of State House.

President Ruto’s statement on July 25, 2023, indicates that he is considering talks with Azimio Principals.

In reaction, bigwigs within Ruto camp are insisting on power-exclusive talks. The commander in Chief had this to say in a Tweet.

“My friend Raila Odinga, I am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent. I’m back tomorrow evening, and as you have always known, I am available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience.”

President Wiliam Ruto.

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro says Ruto should not consider a ‘Nusu Mkate’ deal.

“Protests and dialogue are not a route to any kind of government. We can talk about everything else apart from power sharing and opening the decision Kenyans made on August 2022.

What the President is communicating is that State House is a public place. He is always open to listening to Kenyans from all walks of life but rarely encourages people to see him through brokerage.”

On his side, National Assembly Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah is displeased with Raila and former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Suddenly everyone wants to meet with you, even the one who 11 months ago didn’t even want to shake your hand nor talk to you now wants to and call you his President

It is well, some progress. Happy that Raila has recovered from the flu but when did he start working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or as State House spokesperson?”

Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando says that Raila should focus on public welfare and not power sharing.

ODM leader is on record for revealing that Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu had offered to mediate the political divide in vain.

Ruto Raila handshake nightmare remains a source of uncertainties on political and economic stability.
