The leading pupil Michael Warutere from Riara Springs Academy scored 428 marks.

In his speech, CS Machogu noted that the exam is the last of its kind under the now defunct 8-4-4 curriculum.

In his speech, Machogu emphasized the need to embrace the progressive Competence Based Curriculum.

The CS Machogu further stated that over 1.4 million candidates who sat for the 2023 exams will be proceeding to secondary school in 2024 under the 100 per cent transition program.

It is shocking that out of  1.4 million who sat for KCPE exams, only 2 were involved in malpractice.

The first candidate was found in possession of a mobile phone while the second was caught with unauthorized notes.

Being that this is the last KCPE exam under the 8-4-4 system, Machogu said that those who missed the exam would be given a second chance.

KNEC also confirmed that the affected candidates will sit for a special examination in January 2024.

Above all, the CS noted that there was concern as all other subjects recorded a drop in terms of performance.
