There are at least 5 new demands in Raila’s handshake quest! ODM Party leader released the 5 conditions at his Karen Home on Sunday.

5 Demands in Raila’s handshake quest
Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga issued five fresh demands in the hope of resolving the ongoing political standoff.

He said the following while addressing the press;
1. Unconditional lowering of the cost of living
Raila says Ruto’s regime is mandated by the Constitution to guarantee access to basic needs such as food, education, water, and health.

He says the Head of State should work towards resolving the economic crisis.
2. Ruto must stop threatening the opposition
Raila insists that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should disown favouritism utterances.
“We remind Kenya Kwanza that the declaration by Rigathi Gachagua that Kenya is a private company, which has never been disowned by Willam Ruto, isolates, marginalizes, and treats several communities and regions in Kenya as second-class citizens. It has revived the question of a credible solution of the right to self-determination.”

The opposition has previously released statements alleging that the government is targeting its members.
3. No handshake before resolving IEBC woes
Raila’s stand is that the government must respect the autonomy of independent institutions such as the judiciary and IEBC before negotiations.

Various issues raised around the opening of the servers and inclusion in the reconstitution of IEBC must as well be met.
4. President Ruto must respect Human rights
Azimio’s leader says that the government must take accountability for the recent brutality and abuse of human rights by the police.
He also sought non-interference in opposition affairs.
“It is our position that no party to these negotiations can and should determine for the other what to raise and what not to raise.
We will respect Kenya Kwanza’s right to bring all its issues to the table. Likewise, we expect Kenya Kwanza to have no objection to our priorities.”

As we speak, Raila is displeased with the government’s approach to countering peaceful protests.
5. Kenya Kwanza must cooperate for reconciliation
The opposition leader accused Kenya Kwanza’s efforts in denying mediators.

These include the Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu, Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In his final remarks, the Azimio leader appealed to Kenyans to continue extending support to families of the victims of police brutality.
