Pwani University, initially called Kilifi Institute of Agriculture, was first established as a constituent college of Kenyatta University on August 23rd, 2007 with orders from President Mwai Kibaki.

Pwani University sitting on a 600-acre parcel of land became a full-fledged university on 31st January, 2013, following the award of a charter.
