Photos of Rigathi Gachagua father and mother are making rounds on social media, mostly for good reasons. The duo are celebrated Mau Mau veterans after whom their lastborn son would become a deputy president.

The second in command is on record for bragging about himself as the son of Mau Mau freedom fighters. On top of that, his political uprising is closely associated with the regime of President Daniel Arap Moi. The retired KANU flag bearer allegedly favoured him with frequent promotions in various workplaces.

Who is the father of Rigathi Gachagua? DP Rigathi Gachagua father isĀ the late Nahashon Gachagua RerianiĀ and his mother is the late Martha Kirigo. Historical records indicate that Gachaguaā€™s dad, Nahashon, helped the Mount Kenya Forest freedom fighters. His role in building and servicing guns eventually earned independence from British colonial masters.

Gachagua who is the eighth born in a family of nine children recalls a tough childhood in which meals were scarce.

“My father was a technician. I used to service guns for the Mau Mau while my mother provided them with food and ammunition. I grew up in a colonial village. Those colonial villages were where the settlers put people so that they could control them.ā€

Apart from living in a grass-thatched house, insecurity was rampant at the time.

“Mimi ni mtoto wa Mau Mau nilizaliwa pale kwa msitu, hatukuwa na chochote, nilikuwa naishi kwa nyumba ya nyasi, Nilikuwa nimeangaika, tulikuwa tumekosa chakula na school fees siku mingi Mungu ananiinua.”

The staunch believer of the bottom-up economy says God changed his life for the betterment of others.

Unfortunately, his mother Martha Kirigo Gachagua died in 2019; a couple of years after the death of governor brother Nderitu Gachagua. The family has since lost the eldest brother Jack Reriani.

Rigathi Gachagua dad and mom are renowned for taking an active role in the deadly fights that led to Kenyaā€™s independence. The boldness of their deputy-president son is no different.
