It takes a tough person to overcome humble beginnings. One of the toughest is Simba Arati from a low key family with shallow pockets. Worse off is a middle crisis that would strike Arati to a point of almost giving up in life.

Arati spent a better part of his early life in Nairobi City County. It is correct to say that he discovered himself within the capital.

A lack of school fees and scarcity of jobs would teach him unforgettable life lessons.

A tough childhood

Born on November 28, 1981, Arati started schooling in 1987. Before long, he moved from his ancestral home in Gucha to Bura in Tana River.

Sources allege that Arati was an excessively naughty boy. Therefore, a transfer of schools was necessary to calm him down.

He would later join Nyamache Secondary School. Thereafter, an expulsion saw him joining Suneka Secondary school ahead of his KCSE exams in 1998.

Luckily, he joined the Technical University of Nairobi in 2001. It is about the same time that a stream of challenges took over.

Unlike most learners, Simba Arati sponsored himself at the Technical University of Nairobi.

Working hard after KCSE was the only option available for Arati to change the fate of his struggling family.

At first, Arati moved to Nairobi with the hope of securing a decent job. Unfortunately, he was at the time a form four without professional skills.

Arati finally settled as a sukuma wiki trader with a focus of saving for his Diploma in Tourism Management.

The lawmaker has previously confirmed that the sukuma business was highly profitable despite the hard work.

Years of trading sukuma among other vegetables within major markets in Nairobi City enabled Arati to graduate from TUK in 2003.

Arati is a Masters’ Degree holder from JOOUST

In 2004, Arati proceeded to China for a Business Management degree – he graduated in 2006.

In addition, he graduated in 2015 with an International Relations Masters’ Degree from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

The 40 years old Arati is grateful to have sold sukuma wiki in his prime years.

The experience not only helped him in understanding the city but also groomed him to become Dagoretti North MP.
