Where does William Ruto come from?

Born on December 21, 1966, President Ruto originates in Sambut Village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County. He is therefore of the populous Kalenjin tribe.

His parents include Mr Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot. Ruto would dive into politics while a student at the University of Nairobi.

On graduating in 1990, he briefly worked as an educator before liaising with President Moi to unseat Hon Reuben Chesire in 1997 general elections.

Thereafter, Moi appointed Ruto as the KANU Director of Elections.  He then became a cabinet minister and in 2013, the deputy president.

In 2022, Ruto trounced Opposition leader Raila Odinga as Commander of the Armed Forces.
