1. Established as Kitere Technical School in the 1970s

In the early 1970s, RU was called Kitere Technical School renowned as a craft apprenticeship training center.

In the 80s, it was renamed Moi Institute of Technology (MIT) and then Rongo University in 2012.

2. Upgrade to Rongo University in 2011

Rongo University was established as a Constituent College of Moi University in 2011. At the time, it was known as Rongo University College.
