Arthur Moody Awori is a veteran Kenyan politician previously the Deputy President of Kenya. Being dutiful in high ranking government position would paint his name in the corridors of integrity. A breakdown of Moody Awori political history and life story says no less. Is he dead?

Born on December 5th, 1928, the former Vice President Moody Awori aged 94 years was rumoured dead on Monday, February 27, 2023. Close family members have since bashed the claims.

Awori launched his political career in the early 60s when Kenya was still under British colonial rule.

At first, he joined the independence movement and became a prolific member of the KANU Party which was at the time headed by Kenya’s first president Jomo Kenyatta.

On attaining independence in 1963, Moody Awori became a civil servant in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

He later worked as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development.

In 1983, Awori was appointed to the Kenyan Parliament as a member of the ruling KANU. After that, he became a Minister for Finance, Planning, and Foreign Affairs.

He was widely regarded as a technocrat and a skilled administrator during his time in government.

In 2002, Awori became the running mate of presidential aspirant Mwai Kibaki and eventually vice president on December 30th, 2002. The duo went straight into the State House based on reform and anti-corruption.

During his time as Deputy President, Awori focused on promoting economic development and reducing poverty in Kenya. Apart from fighting corruption, he promoted transparent governance.

In 2008, he retired from politics after serving for more than five decades in various government positions. Moody Awori is now a respected Kenyan figure.

Moody Awori of the Roman Catholic faith is the son of Canon Jeremiah Awori and Mariamu Awori with an ancestral home in Butere Constituency.

He attended Mangu High School and Kakamega School in the 1930s before enrolling for further studies at Makerere University in Uganda.

On matters of family, Moody Awori married Rose Awori with whom he sired 5 children, now in their adult years.

Elsewhere, active service to the people of Kenya has continually attracted exceeding honour.

A Doctor of Laws honorary degree from Southern New Hampshire University is perhaps the most notable award in Moody Awori’s chambers. He bagged the award out of his commitment towards helping the poor and disabled in society.

On top of that, he is an Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) and Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) holder.
